Vanities, A New Musical is a musical with music and lyrics by David Kirshenbaum and a book by Jack Heifner, based on the book and 1976 play by the same name. It ran for 1,785 performances Off-Broadway in 2009, after a 2008 engagement at the Pasadena Playhouse in California. The show is a coming-of-age story set in the 60s and 70s that chronicles the journey of three best friends through their lives, loves, disappointments and dreams in a rapidly changing time.
Vanities was originally produced at TheatreWorks in Palo Alto in the summer of 2006. The critically acclaimed production was awarded two Bay Area Theatre Critics Circle Awards for Outstanding Musical Production and Best Original Score, and was also showcased at the 2006 National Alliance for Musical Theatre (NAMT) Festival of New Musicals.
